Fall Fashion: Styling a Plaid Blazer 15 Ways

Hey y’all!

September is winding down and I know we are itching for fall here in Texas, but instead we’ve gotten rain, humidity and mosquitoes.😂

I know fall is hitting sooner for some, so I am excited to bring to you one of my favorite fall staples for fall. The Plaid Blazer. It is such an easy way to add a little zest to your outfit. A plaid blazer adds interest and flair to any outfit.

If you caught this REEL video – I shared THREE different blazers – all different fits and price points to help you shop for the one that matches your style best.

Let’s choose your blazer if you haven’t already.

ONE – Under $100, TTS – I am wearing a small. This one is more of a splurge, but excellent quality and I love the larger plaid w/ hints of blue. Front open pockets.

TWO– Under $40, boxy fit/boyfriend fit – sized down – I a wearing an XS. I love the quality of this one. Great price for the excellent quality. It is a tad oversized so make sure to size down on this one. I love the color and plaid on this one as well.

THREE– Under $60, a classic, tailored fit – TTS, front pockets, one button instead of two. More fitted compared to the other blazers. The inside lining is white as well.

Save this post for later to refer back to when you are styling your blazer come fall and winter. This blog post is filled with casual looks, everyday to work wear options and dressier options with one blazer.

For reference, I am 5’6 and my TTS is small /size 4, unless noted.

I LOVE wearing a blazer when my look is casual. Our weather stays warm for a little longer, so this is the type of look you will catch me in for lunch dates, day functions, or a day on the town. You could easily style this blazer with dressier shorts, like these leather shorts and black heels for a night out! I have so many colors in these Target tanks and they are the perfect layer piece come fall. They do have a slim fit, so I prefer to size up one size in these. ( in a medium)

SHOP THE LOOKS:

Nordstrom blazer | Spanx leggings | Amazon graphic tee (similar)| Target sneakers

Another way to style a blazer while keeping it casual but put together is with black leggings. I love my Spanx faux leather leggings and have worn them for years and years. They last forever! I am wearing a size small in the leggings, but do recommend if you are in between sizes to size UP. They do run small. The button up keeps the outfit classic and put together. If you are on the hunt for a longer button up try this one.

Mixing it up with a fun graphic tee, keeps it comfortable but still cute! Any neutral graphic tee will work! I love this one.

I really like the idea of a button up with this blazer. It dresses up the look a tad more, but you could also switch out the leggings for black pants or a pencil skirt for a more professional business look. This button up is more cropped, but I really like the length on this one, it’s more of a boyfriend fit.

SHOP THE LOOKS:

You can’t go wrong with a casual or dressy look of all black! These Amazon skinny pants are a great work option but can be dressed down for casual days too with sneakers! Pants fit true to size (in a 4) and have a comfy elastic waist. These Target camis are also a great base layer when wanting a dressier top. The fit is true to size. (In a small)

Style tip ~ Switch out your shoes to change up the look… Threw on a pair of slides for a comfortable casual teacher outfit. You can mix and match all black numerous ways when styling your plaid blazer.

Kicking the all black look up a notch for a night out. Throw on those black jeans – any pair will work! I love these distressed black washed straight leg denim that bounce in and out of stock. Wearing my true size 27. Recommend sizing down if in between. Click here for denim. If your size is out of stock check these out too.

Shop the look:

Nordstrom blazer | similar chambray shirt | Loft denim | Target shoes

Switched out my black denim and added a chambray button up top. This look is a classic fall look that you might already have in your closet. I love Loft denim, the crop flare always fit great. I wear a 26 in their jeans for reference.

I also am loving this puff sleeve chambray button up!

Pattern Mixing

Shop the look:

Don’t be afraid to pattern mix with your blazer. If I am adding a not too busy pattern blouse I like to tuck it in, so you see less of the pattern but just enough to give it that unexpected pop. This brown floral blouse is a great example of a neutral pattern mixing. For reference, blouse is a small, TTS.

This blazer has pretty blue stripes mixed into the neutral plaid, so don’t be afraid to add a pop of blue or a stripe blue shirt to mix up the color palette and again add a fun twist and more pattern mixing with this blazer.

Blue Stripes:

Again, my style tip would be to tuck on your pattern blouses so the outfit doesn’t look too busy.

More Blue + white denim:

Another casual work look with flats but switch out for heels and take it his look on a date night. 💯 These skinnies have an elastic waist built in band that makes them easy to wear, they don’t dig in and the stretch is 👌.
