Teacher & Office Inspired Looks

Hi friends,

Wow! I can’t believe this up coming weekend is Labor Day Weekend……not complaining one bit since we will have a three day weekend.  We are headed out for a little summer fun with some friends.  It will stay hot here in Houston for a long time, so swimming and summer time technically doesn’t end until November. 😉 LOL.

I have had a lot of requests for teacher inspired, work appropriate looks!  Those that do not know, I use to be a 4th grade teacher and loved it.  I loved meeting new kids every year and watched them grow through the school year.  I can’t believe some of the 4th graders I taught have graduated from college and some are off and married!  Time sure does fly by!

This blog post is for all my teachers and work professionals out there that are looking for inexpensive ways to dress up your wardrobe but still be comfortable at work.  I spend some time at my local Target searching the racks for new great pieces that would be flattering and fun for work.

I hope you enjoy this post and find some goodies that will work for you.  You can click any of my links I have in this blog post for easy online shopping. You can even shop the item through my link and choose “pick up in store” if your nearby location has it in stock.  Shopping through my links gives me a small commission but doesn’t change the price of the item on your end.  This helps me continue to do what I love and continue to share it with you all.  Thank you in advance for your support. 🙂

For reference, I am 5’6 and usually wear a small-medium in Target brands.  I will do my best to guide you for the best fit, so you can easily shop online and order the right size.  Everything I tried on comes in sizes XXS-XXL.

DRESSES

Wrap Dress (5 Colors) | Cardigan (tons of colors) | leopard slides

This wrap dress is the prefect dressier option for the classroom/office.  I love the length of this dress.  It comes in 5 solid colors, and I am loving this mustard color for fall.  You can also snag the black one for work and dressy occasions.  You could also wear a fitted cami or bralette underneath if you wanted more coverage, and/or if you are bustier.

This  dress is also nursing and pumping friendly.  If you are pumping at the office the easy tie on this dress makes it easy and discrete.   For reference, this dress runs TTS and is $25.  I am wearing a small.  The cardigan is TTS.  I tried both the small and medium in this cardigan.  Both sizes fit, the medium I have more arm room for layering over thicker tops, so I kept the medium.  You will also see the small on me in the navy cardigan later in the post.

Stripe DressCardigan | Stella & Dot earrings in try-on | Matisse leopard slides

Another great midi dress is a classic black and white stripe.   The middle gather gives a little extra comfort room without looking bulky.  This dress was extremely comfortable and perfect to wear to work.  For reference, this dress runs TTS.  I am wearing a small and this dress is $23.  I also spotted this one on sale online, it is very similar to the above dress, just olive green. Also found a similar twist tie dress in solid pink. Click here for the pink.

Teacher1Floral Shift Dress | Black or Blue Shift Dress |leopard slides

This floral dress is a pretty fall option for the classroom or office.  I love the longer length in the back too.  This dress also comes in a blue and solid black if florals aren’t your thing. ;). I actually loved my leopard shoes with this dress too.  It is the prefect fall pattern mixing and is $25. Also love this similar plaid shirt dress.  Perfect colors for fall.

When the weather gets cooler, throw on your favorite cardigan and booties.  These are some of my favorite booties right now.

Gray dress | Navy Cardigan

Again, I loved the length on this one.  It is sleeveless, so it can easily be dressed up with a blazer or cardigan if needed.  I am wearing this navy cardigan like the cream one above.  For reference, I am wearing a small in both.

Cardigans

These next couple of looks are to show you that cardigans are a great staple item to have in your closet.  You can dress them up for cold classrooms and offices, but also easily style them with your weekend jeans! :). I usually try to have 2-3 basic neutral colors, so I can pair them with anything.  These three below are my favorite finds lately.

Old Navy cardigan | Target stripe tank | Old Navy jeans | Target blush mules

Target cardigan |(comes in 3 colors)

Old Navy cream cardigan | Target navy cardigan | Target oatmeal cardigan

Target: Similar booties | Nordstrom: Similar booties

TOPS / PANTS

teacher4teacher3

Pink top | stripe top | Black pants ( bow is optional on pants)

similar stripe tops: short-sleeve stripe |3/4 sleeve stripe |sleeve-less stripe

I grabbed this pink top immediately when I saw it.  I love the gold button detail and think it is a great basic blouse that can be dressed up or down.  The color is bright and cheerful and will go with just about anything.  For reference, I am wearing a small and it fits nicely. (not too snug). This exact top also comes in a pretty navy with small white polka dots that is just darling and both are $18.

I am really excited about these tie waist crop black pants. They are extremely comfortable and flowy through the legs.  The crop fit is perfect to style with heels or flats for the classroom or office. They were extremely comfortable with a large waist button band and zipper. The bow tie can be tied in the front or back or you can change it out for a regular belt if you choose.  For reference, I am wearing a 2 in the black pants.  I recommend trying a size down from your normal size for comparison.

teacher7teacher6Ruffle sleeve stripe top | Cardigan | Plaid Pants

Basic stripe tops can be dressed up for work with a pair of slacks.  I liked this tee and adding it to a pair of dressy pants gave it a more dressier look.  These pants are the same fit as the black.  I tried on a 4 in the plaid and felt like they were a little baggy.  I wanted to show both sizes for comparison.

polka dot top | wide leg pants

Y’all!  This outfit was my favorite!  This top is on trend with polka dots but I loved the scattered “messy” if you will dot look.  Great for styling with just about anything.

I paired this top with these fun Who What Wear wide leg pants.  This color is perfect for fall.  I did size down to an XS in these pants so they wouldn’t be as baggy and liked the fit of the XS better.  (I usually size down in this particular brand) They have an elastic waist band and pockets. What more do we need?! These pants are cropped and would look great with flats or heels.  I like how you can see your ankle, so it is more flattering and seperates your shape. (side note: I think you would have to iron these pants regularly or possibly dry-clean if you don’t like to iron like me. 🙂 )

These pants may be a little outside of your normal “box” but I would just recommend trying them on.  They are so fun and fashion forward.  They also come in black too.

chambray shirt | wide leg pants

Everyone needs a good chambray shirt for fall.  These tops are so versatile and a great staple to have in your closet.  This top was super soft and comfortable!  The button detail on the sleeve and I also liked how the buttons were navy.   For reference, I tried on a medium because it was literally the last one in store.  I need to order a small.  This chambray top is under $25 too! Such a steal!

floral top | solid top | black pants

This floral top is the perfect fall floral and is very flattering on.  The faux wrap dresses this blouse up and also gives a little “room” if you know what I mean.  I tried on the medium, but would have needed the small.  This top is perfect for the office and would look great layered with a blazer or cardigan.  If you are not a fan of florals this top also comes in a solid burgandy and lavender.  Click here for those.

These black pants are another comfortable pair, that have an elastic waist.  I am wearing a size small and they fit great.  I liked these pants because you can slide the elastic waist up and down depending on what you are wearing and whats comfortable on your body.  If you are on the shorter side you may need to get these altered.  The length was perfect for me and I am 5’6.  I even had some extra room, so I could wear them high-waisted.

Also, found a similar pair online that I didn’t see in my store, but it seems to be the same fit except for a zip and button waist instead of the elastic waist.  This pair comes in 4 color options.  Click here for the similar pant.

white sweater top | stripe sweater top

Another great top, that is easy to throw on with any bottoms.  I am wearing it with the same wide leg black pants as above, but you could pair this top with a skirt, any slacks or even jeans!  For reference I am wearing a small and had plenty of room in this one.  It also comes in stripe options as well as other solid colors.  Click the above links for both. This top is $17!

Of course you can’t style an outfit without the right shoes! I am working on a shoe blog post, but these are some of my favorites right now.
