ABACO, BAHAMAS FAMILY SUMMER TRIP

Hi friends,

I am very excited to bring you our summer travel blog post. I had so many questions about our recent trip to the Bahamas, I thought it would be fun to put together a blog post. This post is all about our trip to Abaco, Bahamas.

This was one of the best family trips we have been on. Our cousin who lives in Florida and travels a lot to the Bahamas helped set it up for us, and made a great itinerary of things to do and places to go. And of course, I will be sharing all my outfits from the trip!

My boys haven’t flown much, so an early wake up call to catch our 7am flight was exciting for them. We left Weston at home with grandparents, because we knew the boys would be snorkeling, swimming and doing all sorts of all day boating and water activities.

Marsh Harbour is the island we flew into to start our trip! We then took a taxi to Boat Harbour Marina and met our family there to take a quick boat trip to Elbow Cay.

We arrived at Southern Cross, the vacation rental house. It was an amazing place to stay and was perfect for our three family group. The house has 6 master bedrooms, a view of the ocean and a pool in the backyard which was perfect for all the kids. We also use a rental golf cart service which made island transportation easy. Click here for golf cart information. We also arranged a grocery service that did some essentials shopping for us and delivered the groceries to the house once we arrived.

Southern Cross
The house had a game called “Tiki Toss” and lets just say it was addicting. We all played and of course I came home and immediately searched for it on Amazon! Click here to check it out.

Saturday evening, the day we arrived, we were all pretty tired from a day of travel. Coming from a life where you are always hustling and in a hurry, you can’t expect anything in a hurry here. “Island Time” It was instant relaxation! 😉

We had reservations at Abaco Inn for dinner. Abaco Inn is a large place that not only serves dinner, but hosts weddings, parties and more.

Everyone ordered a variety of things to try. They had great options for the kids which makes dinners out easy on us. I ordered the Sesame Seared Tuna which was really good.

SUNDAY: DAY ONE

Our first full day of activities! We started out taking the boat to Pelican Cays which is a small beach area that is great for snorkeling, exploration and relaxing. We are fortunate to have a family member boat us around. There were also plenty of boating rentals in the area.

We then headed to Pete’s Pub to try their “Blasters” and enjoy this popular beach spot for lunch.

Ekk! We loved seeing these nurse sharks swimming around the dock.

Pete’s Pub was a great hangout that you can enjoy the atmosphere, have lunch and relax. They had a beach front area with these huge water swings that the boys and adults had fun on. The menu was tasty too! I ordered the Shrimp Gyro which was so good! For sure a must stop if you are making the trip!

This first day was going to be hard to beat in my mind. We headed back home for burgers, hotdogs and pool time! Such a great first day.

DAY TWO

Waking up in The Bahamas without anything to do was like a dream. We got dressed and headed into Hopetown by golf carts to explore, sight see, and hit the local Coffee House. The boys loved all the gift shops around town. For sure a place to visit if you are bringing back souvenirs. I had to share why there isn’t many pictures of the boys…..one was always grumpy! 😉

By lunchtime we were headed to Hopetown Harbour Lodge for lunch and snorkeling right off the beach. The lodge had a covered lunch and bar spot right off the beach.

This was another spot we enjoyed. The boys swam at the lodge pool and played in the ocean. We tested out our snorkel gear, but it ended up being really rough, so we just enjoyed this fun lunch spot and more beach time. After another full day we were pretty beat. Our plan was to hit Captain Jack’s for dinner and bingo on Monday nights, but you have to get there early to grab a spot for bingo. It was already full by the time we checked, so we stayed in and grabbed dinner from a local take out spot called Mackey’s.

We were told bingo at Captain Jack’s is a lot of fun if you are planning activities. It is on the list for next time for us.

DAY THREE

We slept in this day, while the guys went out early to fish. Breakfast was either at home or Mackey’s which is in walking distance of the house. She had breakfast tacos, cinnamon rolls, fresh coffee and more! We then loaded up on the boat by late morning for a trip to Tahiti Beach. This was another fun spot with a swim up bar called Thirsty Cuda. The kids played, skim boarded, looked for shells and we sampled the island beverages.

DAY FOUR

Today is the day for our boat trip the north cove of Munjack Cay to feed the stingrays, turtles and baby sharks. The boat ride was about an hour and change, but so worth the trip!

This for sure was Bryson’s favorite day! We brought squid to feed the stingrays and sharks. This spot is a must go to in our opinion. The boys loved every minute of it. Bryson was 100% in the water basically swimming with them, and Davis was watching from the shore. 😉 This spot got pretty crowded by lunch time, so a spot to hit up early. There were lots of rental boats visiting this spot.

On the way back we made a quick stop at No Name Cay to check out the pigs. Our cousin, told us there a few spots now in the Bahamas where there are pigs to feed. We stopped, checked the box and were on our way! 🙂

Dinner plans were scheduled for Firefly’s Resort that evening. It was such a gorgeous spot and view. The food was was of our favorites too. I tried a seafood pasta and the lobster salad. Also, another restaurant that had great kid options as well.

DAY FIVE

We headed out to a popular bar spot, Cracker P’s for lunch. It is basically across from Trinity Beach where we went on day one. You can dock your boat and enjoy bar food, snacks and outdoor games. The “Fish Dip” is a must try we were told and Cracker P’s hot sauce! This is an outdoor bar and restaurant that was a lot of fun. A great spot to check out!

DAY SIX

Snorkeling at Mermaid Reef was on the agenda today and it was so much fun. We anchored and those that wanted to snorkel swam out to snorkel the near by reef. Lots of pretty fish to see!

We stopped at another great lunch spot called Nipper’s! It had an indoor and outdoor eating area right on the beach. Also had two swimming pools right in the outdoor part of the bar and restaurant. We had so much fun on this day.

This was our last full day living on Island Time. This trip was truly amazing and we enjoyed each and every day. So thankful for all the fun and memories that were made.
